A beautiful glazed parian relief moulded jug by William Brownfield of Cobridge. Made to commemorate the International Exhibition of 1862 (also known as the Great London Exposition, a world's fair on the site that now houses the Natural History and Science Museums in South Kensington). Finely decorated with intertwining scrolls and panels with figures representing Art, Music, Science and Commerce. In excellent condition; no chips or restoration. Minor firing fault near the spout, but nothing to detract from this rare and lovely item. Moulded staffordshire knot with 'W B', ribbon with 'International' and diamond registration for 25th January 1862. Height 23.5cm (9.25in)
