Wedgwood Majolica 'Email Ombrant' Masked Putti Reticulated Plate c1868

A superb Wedgwood majolica plate with a central panel of masked cherubs or putti (representing Comedy and Tragedy) using the 'email ombrant' technique. The design is moulded in low relief then given depth through a coating of translucent green glaze. Framed with a pretty ribbon and ivy leaf garlanded border and a reticulated rim. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. A beautiful example of this unusual and skilled process. Impressed 'Wedgwood' with date code. Diameter 22cm (8.7in)
