Wedgwood Majolica 'Email Ombrant' Lions Octagonal Plate c1867

A rare Wedgwood majolica plate with a central panel of a pride of lions using the 'email ombrant' technique. The design is moulded in low relief then given depth through a coating of translucent glaze. Framed with a 'treacle' glaze garlanded border. In great condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. The usual micro-crazing of the glaze and minor wear which doesn't detract at all from this fine example of a skilful process. Impressed 'Wedgwood' with date code. Width 23cm (9.1in)
