Wallace and Co. of Newcastle 'Rural Scenery' Meat Platter c1850

A good medium size meat plate by J. Wallace and Co., Forth Bank Pottery, Newcastle upon Tyne in a lovely medium to dark blue. An extensive rural scene with distant mountains, water mill and cows in a stream all framed with a dramatic rose and scroll border on a darker ground. In great condition though there is even wear to the glaze of the central well, commensurate with age. Still displays beautifully and a rare piece of northern pottery. Printed 'Rural Scenery' with 'J. W. & Co.' and impressed 'Wallace'. Length 40.75cm (16in)
