Unusual Royal Doulton Nautical Series 'Sea Shanty' Jug c1935

A lovely Doulton sea shanty jug introduced in 1927, the shape with rope twist handle specifically designed for this series. A hand tinted scene each side, depicting three sailors on a pier and a sailor bidding farewell to his sweetheart. Each scene accompanied by sea shanty verses, a third verse below the spout. Anchors and a seagull around the handle complete the seafaring theme. In excellent condition, not even crazed. Royal Doulton backstamp with 'Sea Shanty Jug' and rd. nos. 732558/9 printed. Height including handle 16.5cm (6.5in)
