A lovely Argus jug, the smaller of two sizes, depicting a gaffer leaning on his walking stick at a garden gate. Printed 'Gaffers I be all the way from Zummerset' and traces of Noke signature on the reverse. Nicely painted and in good condition. No chips, cracks or restoration. Fine glaze crazing typical of these wares and some wear/rubbing of the brown trim inside the rim, but nothing to detract. A rare shape to find. Special Royal Doulton Gaffers mark and painted D4210. Height 10cm (4in) and 16cm (6.25in) across from handle to spout.
