Unusual Don Pottery 'Named Italian Views' Series Pearlware Twiffler or Dessert Plate c1820

A titled scene 'Monastery at Tre Castagne' and a rare one to find in this Don Pottery series. In a dark-medium blue it depicts a group of travellers approaching the steps of the ancient building. Below the scene are the words 'Monastery at Tre Castagne'. Framed by a lovely border of flowers against a stipple ground with leaves and two prominent putti holding garlands. In reasonable condition, showing little sign of wear, though there is a 'thumb nail' chip to the rim on the reverse (see image 5). Still displays well. Lovely pearlware blue rippled glaze and no foot rim. Unmarked. Diameter 21.25cm (8.3in)
