Information

A very unusual 'tree and well' poultry dish by Davenport in a pattern which Lockett described as 'comparatively rare'. The 'Fisherman' series is mainly known from a few examples of dessert dishes and although dinner wares are known, shapes like this are extremely rare. It has rim grips at each end and the well raises one end to assist the draining of juices. This type of dish is usually in a rectangular meat platter shape. The central ruin varies from piece to piece, as does the foreground fisherman. In great condition; the only 'fault' has occurred during manufacture, where three pools of glaze have collected on the base. I feel this only adds character to this superb item. Impressed 'Davenport' above an anchor; circa 1820.  Length 33.5cm (13.2in).
