Susie Cooper Crown Works Pottery 'Modernist' Plate, Design #411 c1934

A rare and unusual hand-painted earthenware plate in the abstract modernist style. Hand painted curves and arcs in underglaze sepia, indian red, yellow and grey make up this truly dynamic design, creating a free-form effect. Condition is excellent, with gentle micro-crazing of the glaze as is usual with this pottery. 'Susie Cooper, Crown Works, Burslem, England' backstamp and impressed date for 1934. Diameter 22.9cm (9in)
