Information

An exceptional pair of 19th century Wedgwood majolica vases. Hexagonal in shape, each rich sienna panel is separated by striking cobalt blue, the rims and bases edged in deep yellow ochre and the interiors washed in pale turquoise. The panels have embossed medallions of classical maidens and stylised flowers in the aesthetic movement style. Fine examples of an arts and craft shape. In great condition; no damage or repairs. Slight glaze misses to the yellow bases (see image 4), but part of the firing process and mentioned for accuracy. Extremely rare to find majolica vases, especially in such good order and by a leading potter. Both pieces impressed 'Wedgwood', date code 'MAB' for May 1873 and painted design number 1476. Height 11.5cm (4.5in)
