A stunning Ridgways sauce tureen and cover complete with stand in the 'Angus Seats' pattern. Rare to find complete and in such good condition, with some overall light staining to the interior of the tureen and a minor glaze frit near the ladle hole of the lid (image 5). The inside rim of the lid has a couple of minute chips, hardly noticeable and a glazed manufacturing chip. All in all though a fine 'honest' set without major damage, cracks or restoration and which displays beautifully.
A series of untitled views based on engravings taken from W. Angus 'Seats of the Nobilty and Gentry in Great Britain and Wales' first published in 1797. The stand has one view, while the tureen has a different view on each side and a view to the base of the interior. The lid again has a single view. The borders consist of small vignettes with large bunches of flowers. The tureen has beautifully scrolled handles and the crowning glory is the painted lion finial on the lid. Examples are rarely marked (a plate is recorded with 'Ridgway' impressed).
Length of stand 17.9cm (7in), height with lid 14.7cm (5.75in)
