Stunning and Rare Marked Joseph Holdcroft Cobalt Majolica 'Water Lily' Plate c1870 (Sold)

In the 1860s, Joseph Holdcroft, like George Jones, left Minton to set up his own pottery in Longton, Staffordshire. Here we have an outstanding Water Lily plate, the leaves and flowers revealing a deep cobalt blue centre. The colours are superb and the modelling is crisp. Lovely mottled tortoiseshell reverse. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Rare to find impressed 'JH' monogram. Diameter 21cm (8.25in)
