Information
A lovely double indented shape plate, introduced by Spode specifically for the Caramanian series. Taken from Luigi Mayer's book 'Views in the Ottoman Empire, chiefly in Caramania' (pub.1803), this scene shows 'Sarcophagi and Sepulchres at the Head of the Harbour at Cacamo'. Each shape has a different view, but share an exotic border of palms, elephants and rhinoceros, together with other 'eastern' vignettes. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Shows little sign of wear; rare to find in such good order. Fine rippled glaze and mild age related crazing. Impressed lower case 'Spode' and '2'. Diameter 25.25cm (10in)
