Information
A superb Sowerby vase in turquoise/green malachite in the form of three chained lion pawed swans; often called 'the gryphon vase', though strictly speaking a gryphon is part eagle and part lion. A classic vase in the 'mediaeval' taste in excellent condition. Unmarked and sometimes attributed to Edward Moore of South Shields, most collections now attribute the design to Sowerby (including Tyne and Wear Museums). Height 17cm (6.7in)
NB This is one of two currently for sale. Bought as a pair, they are a very good colour match, though this second vase is slightly smaller which is only noticed when they are put close together. This shows that they are from different moulds and for this reason are being sold individually.
