A lovely majolica plant pot or jardiniere modelled as a wooden barrel with staves, the front and back with large sprays of ferns and wood sorrel leaves and flowers. An interesting feature is the addition of two grotesque animal masks at each side. The interior has a good turquoise glaze. In good antique condition, though it has been used over the years, so has signs of wear to the interior, a few minor glaze frits (the most obvious on the foot rim - image 5) and a couple of short, feint and stable hairlines. Still a fine piece which looks great on display and could still be used without any problems. A good size which would hold a 6 inch diameter plant pot.
