Side & Dessert Plates
The names twiffler (or twifler) and muffin were used in the 18th and early 19th centuries for different sizes and types of plate. Twifflers were the size down from dinner plates and about the size of a dessert plate (8 to 9 inches). Muffins were smaller and the equivalent size of a tea or side plate.
