Information

The Jackdaw of Rheims is one of the Ingoldsby Legends, a series of tales written by Richard Harris Barham in 1840. It concerns a cheeky Jackdaw who steals the Cardinal's ring but returns it when he suffers from a curse put on the thief. He then becomes so pious he is canonised on his death. The series was in production from 1906 to 1930 and there are 16 known scenes. Here is a vibrant rack plate which depicts the Cardinal removing the curse once his ring has been returned. In great condtion, with some clean glaze crazing typical of these wares. Displays beautifully. Printed Royal Doulton mark with painted pattern number D2532. Diameter 26.25cm (10.4in)
