The Jackdaw of Rheims is one of the Ingoldsby Legends, a series of tales written by Richard Harris Barham in 1840. It concerns a cheeky Jackdaw who steals the Cardinal's ring but returns it when he suffers from a curse put on him. He then becomes so pious he is canonised on his death. The series was in production from 1906 to 1930 and there are 16 known scenes. Here is a lovely fruit dish which depicts scene 11 with two monks and the line 'But no! they can't find the ring'. In great condition. Printed Royal Doulton and impressed Doulton with painted series reference D2532 and impressed date for 1922. Diameter 19.5cm (7.6in)
