Information
A super Royal Doulton Dickens 'E' Series Ware plate. Modelled in low relief, this series was only in production for a short period in the late 1930s and some of the designs and shapes are often quite unusual and rare. The characters depicted on this plate are Sam Weller and Mrs Bardell, Mr. Pickwick's servant and landlady from 'Pickwick Papers'. The glaze colours used are lovely deep rich hand painted tones and the characters themselves are relief moulded and raised to the touch. A great item in excellent condition; no chips, cracks, hairlines or crazing and the brown painted rim is also in excellent order. On the reverse is the green Royal Doulton lion backstamp, Reg'd in Australia and the pattern number D5833. Impressed also are the numbers 5.38 which confirms the plates manufacturing date of 1938. Width 20cm (7.9in)
