A rare art deco shape coffee cup and saucer decorated in Doulton's Robert Allen studio. A classic 1930's shape printed and painted on a pale blue/green background with a lovely profile of a West Highland White Terrier looking through long grass. Finely gilded and in excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear. Printed Royal Doulton Bone China marks and painted references RA.1346 and H.4484. Diameter of saucer 12.25cm (4.85in)
Robert Allen (1870-1929) trained under John Slater and in the 1890's became head of a studio group of artists and craftsmen producing the finest and most expensive of decorative wares. Wares designed and decorated by Robert Allen and artists in his studio were given RA-numbers written by hand.
