A superb Royal Doulton child's trio featuring nursery rhyme characters from designs by William Savage Cooper. The cup illustrates three rhymes; Old Mother Hubbard, Tom Tom the Piper's Son and There was a Little Man. The saucer shows Little Bo Peep and There was a Little Man, while the plate illustrates Old Mother Goose and Simple Simon. A fine cream earthenware with high quality coloured transfers, this was the first nursery ware series introduced by Doulton in 1903 and was ordered by Queen Alexandra for use by her grandchildren. In excellent condition, not even crazed. Rare to find, especially in such good order. Royal Doulton backstamp and painted series number D5187; plate with impressed date for 1932. Plate diameter 16.25cm (6.4in)
