A fine Tudor shape jug from the 'Nightwatchman' series introduced in 1899 and designed by Charles Noke. Sepia printed outline and Whieldon glaze with the details of each of the two characters hand painted. Lovely William Morris flower print on the base, rim and handle. 'Watchman what of the night?' on a scroll below the spout. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. A nice early example of series ware. Printed Royal Doulton, England, Registration Number 383666 and painted series number D1460. Height 17.5cm (6.9in)
