A small bone china sugar bowl (coffee or batchelor/tea for two size) in 'Glamis Thistle' designed by Percy Curnock*, with his facsimile signature. Delicately printed in shades of green, purple, yellow and brown with sprays of thistles which grow near Glamis Castle. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear. Printed Royal Doulton marks. Diameter 10.2cm (4in)
*Percy Curnock (1873-1956) was one of Doulton's longest serving artists, starting in 1885 at the age of 12 and retiring in 1954 aged 81. He specialized in floral painting, especially roses, and studied at the Burslem School of Art where he met Edward Raby, Fred Hancock and David Dewsbury. He trained under John Slater and Robert Allen, becoming a premier artist for Doulton.
