Rare Wedgwood Majolica 'Luther' Aesthetic Movement Cheese Keeper Dome c1890

A beautiful Wedgwood majolica Stilton cheese dome or keeper in the aesthetic movement 'Luther' design. An unusual and rare example depicting panels of urns with stylised flowering shrubs. The panels have a striking turquoise ground, alternating with panels of different styles of basket weave. Impressed 'Wedgwood' with date code for 1890 and painted pattern number. In fine antique condition, with only a few minor issues - a couple of glaze misses to the base rim and a small flat chip to the dome base (see image 4). Hardly noticed and in general without major damage, restoration or staining. A large and impressive piece. Diameter of base 26.5cm (10.4in), overall height 21cm (8.25in)
