A lovely and rare porcelain study of a naked boy riding a leaping goat; probably representing the young Zeus astride Amaltheia who nurtured and protected him in the mountains of Crete. Famous for their dynamic Art Deco figures of the female nude (often on horseback or running alongside greyhounds), this superbly modelled group by the artist K. Steiner for Schaubach of Wallendorf is in excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. The base and goat have a beautiful white glaze while the figure of the boy is in unglazed 'bisque' which perfectly captures the subtle and realistic flesh tones. His face and hair have been delicately painted in the tradition of German porcelain doll production. From every angle, this fine item is full of movement. Printed Schaubach Kunst mark. Height 16cm (6.2in), length 16cm.
