A lovely Blanc de Lait or white vitro-porcelain glass bowl on four feet. A classic Sowerby aesthetic movement shape (1446 in the 1882 pattern book IX) with moulded sprays of hand enamelled Japanese style blossoms. Produced in small amounts, these were more expensive painted versions of items produced from the standard moulds. In excellent condition - rare to find, especially in such good order. Sowerby 'peacock' and diamond registration mark for 1879. Diameter 11.5cm (4.5in)

Examples from the Laing Art Gallery collection are illustrated on page 54 of Simon Cottle's 'Sowerby, Gateshead Glass'.
