Rare Scottish Majolica Egg Cup Stand c1880

A fantastic majolica eggcup stand or cruet, with six eggcups. In the form of an ivy covered log with a branch handle, this unusual example has survived in remarkably good condtiion. One eggcup has a couple of stable hairlines, the other five are perfect, as is the log carrier/holder. No chips, cracks or restoration. Probably by the old Scottish firm Bailey's of Alloa, the modelling and colours are striking; the upper surface of the log is a deep cobalt blue washed inside with a vibrant magenta pink. The eggcups are creamy yellow washed inside with a paler magenta pink. A lovely item to have survived complete. Unmarked. Height (incl. handle) 18cm (7.1in), length 18cm.
