A superb Newlyn jug depicting a gaffer smoking a long churchwarden pipe. Printed 'Gaffers I be all the way from Zummerset' on the reverse. Nicely painted and in excellent condition. No chips, cracks or restoration. Fine glaze crazing typical of these wares, but nothing to detract. A lovely display item, rare to find especially in such good order. Special Royal Doulton Gaffers mark and painted D4210. Height 16.5cm (6.5in)
