A superb large Newlyn jug depicting a gaffer with a red bundle under his arm, leaning on his brolly at a garden gate. Printed 'Gaffers I be all the way from Zummerset' on the reverse. Nicely painted and in excellent condition. No chips, cracks or restoration. Fine glaze crazing typical of these wares, but nothing to detract. A stunning display item, rare to find especially in such good order. Signed Noke near the handle (see image 4). The largest of four sizes of the Newlyn shape jugs. Special Royal Doulton Gaffers mark and painted D4210. Height 17.5cm (6.9in)
