A superb Royal Doulton 'Morrisian' ware jug with Holbein glaze. The middle size of three Tudor jugs produced, it's block printed in sepia with characters from 'Eastern Figures' by the American poster artist Will H. Bradley (1868-1930) whose work was influenced by Aubrey Beardsley. The borders and handle are trimmed with William Morris style grapevine motifs. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Fine age related crazing (only really noticed under a magnifier and mentioned for accuracy) often associated with these wares and nothing to detract. A wonderful example of art nouveau and early series ware. Printed 'Royal Doulton, England' and special 'Morrisian' mark, with painted series number D1020. Height 17.5cm (6.9in)
