A lovely pearlware sauce tureen and cover printed in medium blue with a classical scene framed by a distinctive border of grapes, flowers and acanthus leaves. The scene and the border are separated by an area of 'vermicelli' which also covers the fantastic lion's head handles and is also a very distinctive feature of the lid. The finial is also modelled as a lion's head and part of the border transfer has been used to decorate this. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Rare to find such a charming piece in such good order. Unmarked which is usual for this pattern. Overall length with handles 18.5cm (7.25in)
