Rare Large Victorian Aesthetic Movement Turquoise 'Apple Blossom' Majolica Pitcher c1880

A superb Aesthetic Movement majolica jug with creamy yellow and turquoise background glazes. Though unmarked, my guess is Samuel Lear 1877-1886, based on the look and feel of the item (this type of background modelling seems to be a favourite of Lear). The lovely basket weave and panel effect background is the perfect contrast for the sprigs of leaves in pink and green, the blossoms picked out in pink. As can be seen in the images, the whole is set off by the lavender pink interior and an unusual handle which emphasizes the style. A large and impressive item in excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Rare to find large pieces like this in such good order. Height 19.75cm (7.75in)
