Information
A superb majolica cup and saucer by Joseph Holdcroft. The cup modelled as a chestnut and the saucer as a chestnut leaf with flowers. Bright naturalistic colours nicely painted and the inside of the cup washed a lovely turquoise. A rare item to find, especially with the saucer extended to form a plate. Later versions are called 'tennis' cups and saucers, but I don't recall ever seeing a Victorian version. In great condition; no cracks or restoration. The plate/saucer has three minor glaze frits underneath (image 5) and the cup has the usual age related fine crazing. Still a real gem of a display item. Cup impressed J. Holdcroft. Length of saucer 20cm (7.9in)
