Information
Made in one piece this is in effect a dinner plate fitted with a lower chamber to be filled with hot water. There are two filling spouts in the rim of the plate which would have had cork bungs. A remarkable survivor by John Davenport in the 'Gothic Ruins' pattern. Printed in medium blue with a rustic scene dominated by gothic ruins and framed within a pretty border of flowers and leaves on a stippled ground. The filling spouts and supports are hand coloured in cobalt blue. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Fine micro-crazing of the glaze commensurate with age, though only visible on close scrutiny. Displays beautifully. Impressed DAVENPORT with anchor. Width 28cm (11in)
