Rare John and William Ridgway 'Rural Scenery' Rams Head Sauce Tureen c1820

A superb Ridgways 'Rural Scenery' sauce tureen and cover with beautifully modelled rams head handles and cornucopia finial, hand painted in cobalt blue. The cover is printed in medium blue with one of the five known scenes which features a group of deer in a village setting. The base is printed both sides with an unrecorded scene of two men in the process of harnessing a horse to a cart, again in a village setting. In great condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Some mild age related crazing and grey staining to the interior base, but nothing to detract from the display value of this rare item. Printed Rural Scenery J & W R in a grape vine cartouche. Height with lid 17.5cm (6.8in)
