Rare 'Goldfinch' Pearlware Soup Plate c1810 (riveted repair)

Stock Status: In Stock

A lovely indented soup plate in the hard to find 'Goldfinch' pattern. Printed in deep blue with a goldfinch singing on the branch of a rose tree with a butterfly above his head. Both the central panel and the floral border are printed on a stippled ground. Adapted from a wood engraving by Thomas Bewick in 'A History of British Birds' published in 1797 and 1804. Displays beautifully, although there is an old riveted repair noticed more on the reverse (see image 4). A very rare piece and modestly priced because of this. Maker unknown. Diameter 24.5cm (9.6in)
