Rare George Jones Majolica 'Chestnut Leaf on Napkin' Serving Dish c1870

This magnificent piece of George Jones majolica is in the rare form of a chestnut leaf on a pale turquoise pink trimmed napkin. The stem of the leaf curls over to form a handle and branches either side to form sprays of pink tinged chestnut flowers. Hints of a yellow ochre 'basket' can be seen at the edges. In good condition, without cracks or restoration. There are some minor glaze frits on the leaf edges, but I would call these age related rather than serious damage. You certainly have to scrutinize the piece to spot them (see pics, image 5) and it displays beautifully. Gentle crazing often intrinsic to majolica. No impressed mark, but early factory painted number 1786. Width 25.5cm (10in)
