Rare Forester's Aesthetic Movement Majolica 'Butterfly and Flower' Jug c1880

Though unmarked apart from some interesting impressed potter's marks (image 5), this very pretty jug in the 'aesthetic movement' taste has all the characteristics of the Staffordshire firm of Forester's (in particular the very deep pink interior and the over all modelling of the piece). Embossed butterflies and flowers in blue and turquoise on a cream basket weave ground make this a very unusual and colourful item. The rim is trimmed with turquoise basket weave and the base with rope twist, and of course that lovely deep pink interior. Great condition, no damage or restoration. Height 12.7cm (5in)
