Information
A rare scene of York printed in dark blue and framed by a dense border of trees and flowers to create the 'diorama' effect. This picture viewing device had just been invented (c1820) and produced a type of early 3D image. The delightful view shows York in the distance and the river Ouse in the foreground with a small boat and a fisherman. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear. Indented shape with foot rim and fine blue rippled glaze. Printed 'Diorama View of York' in underglaze blue. Diameter 25.25cm (10in)
