Rare Don Pottery 'Named Italian Views' Series Pearlware Twiffler or Dessert Plate c1820

A titled scene 'Terrace of the Naval Amphitheatre at Taorminium' and a rare one to find in this Don Pottery 'Named Italian Views' series. Printed in a dark-medium blue it depicts a group of seated travellers viewing the ancient buildings. Below the scene are the words 'Amphitheatre at Taorminium'. Framed by a lovely border of flowers against a stipple ground with leaves and two prominent putti holding garlands. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear. Finely potted with a lovely pearlware blue rippled glaze and no foot rim. Unmarked. Diameter 23.5cm (9.25in)
