Information
A lovely Don Pottery 'Ruins of the Castle of Canna' pearlware basket stand from the Named Italian Views series. Printed in medium blue with a fine rippled glaze, the inner rim and well have been finely pierced and combed to give a basket weave effect. The putti which are usually part of the floral border have instead been moulded into the handles (a nice touch, though not obvious at first because of the deep blue glaze). In great condition - no damage or restoration. Slight glaze roughness to the handles and a glazed over chip on the foot rim - both minor manufacturing flaws associated with these early wares and nothing to detract from the display value of this rare item. Unmarked as is often the case with this pattern. Width 31cm (12.25in)
