A rare tart dish printed in medium blue and showing the scene of a wolf trap with a lamb suspended over it in a basket. A pot of water drips on to the lamb causing it to bleat and attract wolves. Four wolves have gathered and one is shown falling into the pit below which is disguised with branches and leaves. Exotic border of tigers, bears, boar and cormorants. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little signs of wear or use. A lovely pale blue rippled glaze. No foot rim. Printed Copeland Late Spode with the title 'COMMON WOLF TRAP' in underglaze blue and impressed '12'. Diameter 20.75cm (8.25in)
