Information
A superb 575 vase in the form of a tree trunk from the Bon Dieu* range of shapes. Beautifully painted with pink, yellow, blue and purple pansies set against fantastic 'Delecia' dripware on both the inside and outside. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. A rare item to find, especially in such good order. The design looks stunning on this unusual naturalistic shape. 'Bizarre by Clarice Cliff' signature and moulded shape number 575. Height 15.2cm (6in)
*Introduced at the peak of her popularity in 1932, 'Le Bon Dieu' was a range of tea and fancy wares modelled as gnarled tree trunks with the legend "I think that I shall never see a form more lovely as a tree". Decorated with rather drab glazes, the range did not sell well at all and most pieces were withdrawn and destroyed, consequently making it a rare shape to find. A few remaining blanks were successfully decorated, like this vase, with delecia floral patterns which are even rarer.
