Information
A superb 'fairing' type bisque figure of Chaplin's 'Little Tramp' with separate head attached to a cord allowing it to nod and swivel. His cane is a separate piece of painted wire which slots into a hole in his hand and another on the base. Full of character, a rare item which totally captures this iconic cinema image. Produced within a year or so of the first appearance of the Tramp.* In excellent condition with some very minor age wear, but no chips, cracks or restoration. Printed Wiltshaw and Robinson, Carlton China mark with registration number 649828 for 1914/15. Height 16.5cm (6.5in)

*The character of the Tramp was created by accident while Chaplin was working at Mack Sennett's Keystone Studio, when dressing up for the short film 'Mabel's Strange Predicament'. The Tramp debuted in the Keystone comedy 'Kid Auto Races at Venice' (released on 7th February 1914). Chaplin, with his Little Tramp character, quickly became the most popular star in Keystone Studio's company of players and Chaplin continued to play the Tramp through dozens of short films and subsequent feature-length productions.
