A stunning 'Arabesque' bowl designed by John Guildford for Barker Brothers of Longton. A size and shape I've not seen before in this range. Hand painted with stylised 'sgraffito' red pyramids and elongated trees in green, blue, yellow and mauve against a bright orange ground. Deep bands of blue to the rim and base make a striking contrast and even better is the unusual orange and green banding on the inside. In excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration and no oxidising of the blue or flaking of the enamels. To be accurate, there are three tiny scratches to the orange centre, hardly noticeable and nothing to detract from the display value of this fantastic piece (see image 4).
