A lovely porcelain figure of the young Albert Edward, Prince of Wales after a painting by Winterhalter given to Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in Christmas 1846 to commemorate their young son's fifth birthday. This parian version (shape 206) is finely modelled with lots of detail. The future King Edward VII dressed as a sailor boy was first shown by Minton at the Birmingham Exhibition of 1849 and then the Great Exhibition of 1851. In excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration. For accuracy, there are a couple of tiny age related frits to the base underneath - really only noticed under close scrutiny and nothing to detract from the display value of this fantastic piece. Rare to find, especially in such good order. Early incised Minton 'ermine' mark with year cypher for 1852. Height 33cm (13in)
