Marked Don Pottery 'Named Italian Views - Tomb of Theron at Aggrigentum' Pearlware Soup Plate c1820 #3

A titled scene 'The Tomb of Theron at Aggrigentum' and a nice one to find in this Don Pottery series with full pottery marks. Printed in a medium blue it depicts a group of travellers sketching and exploring the ancient ruined tomb. Below the picture are the words ' Tomb of Theron at Aggrigentum'. The border is mainly flowers against a stipple ground with leaves and two prominent putti holding garlands. In excellent condition;no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear. A really lovely example. Fine pearlware blue rippled glaze and no foot rim. Printed lion and banner mark and impressed DON POTTERY. Diameter 25cm (9.8in)
