Mabel Leigh
Mabel Leigh worked for Shorters from 1933 to 1935 and designed some of their most distinctive pottery. Given the name Period Ware and inspired by ethnic art from Spain, the Middle East, Africa, India and Mexico, individual ranges were given names such as Aztec, Khimara and Medina. Using sgraffito and hand painting, pieces are often signed on the base and the more complicated designs were done entirely by Mabel herself.
