A beautifully decorated Mason's Patent Ironstone China shaped dessert plate in a vibrant oriental pattern of floral sprays and sprigs. Printed with a finely stippled maroon outline and panels of cobalt blue, then hand painted with iron red, pink, green and yellow enamels. In excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration with only a little sign of age related wear and rubbing of the gilt. Printed 'Mason's Patent Ironstone China' mark and painted pattern number 2790 in red. The reverse rim also has three hand painted flower sprigs disguising prominent stilt marks (a lovely finishing touch often used at the time to hide minor firing blemishes). Diameter 23cm (9in)
The same design in a different colourway (pattern number 2752) is illustrated in Haggar and Adams 'Mason Porcelain and Ironstone 1796-1853' figs.127 and 128. There is also a reference to it in pattern books on page 75.
