Information
A superb iridescent glass 'Bronze' vase by Thomas Webb. One of the first successful attempts by glassmakers in the 19th century to replicate the iridescence occurring on excavated ancient glass, Cyril Manley called Webb's Bronze 'regal'. This is a fine example of a classic early shape, Roman in style with two applied handles. It shows off the glass maker's art and subtle iridescent qualities beautifully. In great condition; no chips, cracks or wear. Some surface 'grittiness' which can be felt rather than seen and quite often happened on these larger pieces. Part of the process and mentioned for accuracy. Rare to find such a large example. Finely polished pontil mark. Height 11.75cm (4.6in), width 20cm (7.9in)
